One day, I told a friend of mine that I was thinking about applying for a patent.
My friend said, "Just think of the odds against you."

I always question companies who want to help me patent, manufacturer and market my
invention. I ask them three questions,
1. Can you show me some examples of products on the market?
2. How many inventors that you helped live off the profits from their invention?
3. How much money do you want?
I quit my company job over 20 years ago.
I was 52 years old. Some said I would be
looking for a company job within 6 months. They were wrong.
What I DID have was a wife and three children, a weekly paycheck, no savings account, a house payment and a car payment.
Oh yes, and one dream.
What would life be without a dream? A dream of real freedom. Being in charge of my life, being home with my family instead of the company workplace. Caring for my children at home.
Taking a vacation at my pleasure, not when the company allowed me.

I had to blaze a new trail. As I learned by my mistakes, I would think of new ways to accomplish my objectives. Since I didn't have the money to follow established methods, my progress
was slow. I listened to commercials on radio and TV aimed at inventors. I read books, lots of books, thousands of pages. Do this and do that. The more I read, the more complicated it seemed. Finally, I decided to do it myself. Why
not? What did I have to lose?. Not much money, only time. If I succeeded, I'd make 100% of the profit.
So off I went. I perfected a three part system and reached my goal. Patenting, manufacturing and marketing on a shoestring budget.
Companies I worked for made big bucks from my ideas.
I made $25, $50 or sometimes $500 from suggestion awards.
Almost daily I receive calls from inventors. Most ask the same questions: How do I get started? How did you do it? Will you help me? Some told me how con artists took them to the
cleaners. They could have paid for a patent with the money they lost. Most of the time I give them a starting point, but I don't have time for the details.

I spent 20 years learning how to do it and still maintain full control of the product.
I'm a dreamer whose dream has come true. It's a blessing that I have an excellent imagination and good health.
I've learned that as long as a person's mind can function, they can do it.
My patent was for a magnetic field detecting instrument, called The Mag-Probe®.
It appears in several
national catalogs and is sold by distributors across the United States and Canada. It's used for troubleshooting electrical solenoid valves and relays used in industrial applications.
In one major national catalog it is one of their top selling products out of 800.
It's also included in
one of the two largest test equipment catalogs in the world.
One of the most discouraging aspects of realizing one's dream, is the cost. Let me give you an example of one companies fees. They charge from $800 to $11,000 and 99.85% of their
clients don't make more than their fees.
I'm looking forward to filing several more patent applications in the near future, now that I have my system perfected.
